Nvidia H20 China sales received a major boost when the Trump administration reversed a recent ban and assured licenses will now be granted. Nvidia filed to resume shipments on July 14. CEO Jensen Huang reportedly met with Trump, triggering Commerce’s decision. This marks a turning point for investors, easing long-standing export hurdles that cost billions in lost revenue.

How Export Policy Has Hit Nvidia’s China Business

Under the Nvidia H20 China restrictions, U.S. export rules led to significant losses. Historically, China made up 26% of Nvidia’s revenue in fiscal 2022. After policy shifts, this dropped to 22% in 2023, 17% in 2024, and just 13% in 2025. Nvidia took a $4.5 billion write‑down and warned of an $8 billion revenue hit in Q2.

Policies evolved with each administration. The Biden team halted A100 and H100 exports in 2022–2023. Nvidia responded with H800. After the Trump government blocked H20 shipments in April 2025, Nvidia again lost market. CEO Huang called the ban damaging and argued that limiting American tech only strengthens foreign rivals.

Why the Change Matters for Investors and AI Leadership

Resuming Nvidia H20 China exports restores access to a massive AI market. Analysts expect this will drive earnings forecasts higher. Wall Street projects return of the lost $8 billion by Q4 2026, with 38% revenue growth in 2027. Earnings growth at 41% annually through FY2027 supports Nvidia’s current valuation near 54x earnings.

Additionally, Trump rescinded the AI Diffusion Rule, widening Nvidia’s addressable market across allies. Wall Street responded positively. Nvidia shares jumped about 4–5% on the news. Other chip stocks also climbed following the announcement.
