SK Hynix AI chip demand is soaring thanks to Nvidia’s rapid growth in artificial intelligence. This helped the South Korean chipmaker post a 158% profit jump in the first quarter, reaching 7.4 trillion won ($5.2 billion). The company also recorded a 42% rise in revenue, totaling 17.6 trillion won.

Strong sales of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, used in Nvidia’s AI GPUs, played a major role. These chips power AI models by processing vast amounts of data quickly. Despite rising trade tensions, SK Hynix expects minimal impact from proposed U.S. tariffs.

“There’s no change to our sales plans with major customers this year,” said Kim Ki-tae, who leads HBM sales and marketing. He confirmed that the company will honor all agreements set in earlier contracts.

Although the U.S. has launched an investigation into foreign chip imports, SK Hynix remains confident. The company relies on U.S. clients for about 60% of its revenue. However, most of its shipments go to countries outside the United States. For instance, Apple builds iPhones in China and India, while Nvidia manufactures in Mexico and Taiwan.

Analysts have expressed concern about recent stockpiling. They fear it could lead to weak demand later in the year. But SK Hynix believes the risk is small. “We don’t expect demand pull-ins to trigger inventory problems,” said Kim Kyu-hyun, head of DRAM marketing.

Tech giants are still spending heavily on server chips. SK Hynix expects this trend to continue as companies try to stay ahead in the AI race. In mobile, new smartphones with AI features are also creating demand for high-performance DRAM chips.

Low-cost AI models from China’s DeepSeek are also reshaping the market. These models lower the entry barrier, increasing competition and demand for advanced memory chips.

SK Hynix leads the global race to produce HBM chips. Its main competitor, Samsung Electronics, has struggled to match its pace. This leadership has made SK Hynix the top supplier of HBM chips to Nvidia.

Despite global tensions and shifting policies, the company sees continued momentum. Its strong ties with Nvidia and tech giants give it an edge in the growing AI chip market.

In short, SK Hynix AI chip demand shows no signs of slowing down. As Nvidia’s AI dominance grows, SK Hynix stands ready to meet the need for faster, more powerful memory solutions.
