Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang electrified Europe this past week with a high-profile tour across London and Paris, where he pitched Nvidia as the company capable of helping nations build their AI infrastructure from the ground up.

As he met with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and packed auditoriums at major events like London Tech Week and GTC Paris, Huang emphasized that Nvidia is no longer just a chipmaker—it’s a global AI infrastructure powerhouse.

“AI is as foundational as electricity,” Huang said during a keynote in Paris. “Europe must come together to build shared capacity.”

A Rockstar Welcome for AI’s Leading Visionary

At every stop, Huang attracted massive crowds, long queues, and photo-seeking fans—underscoring his current status as one of the most admired figures in tech. GTC Paris resembled a music festival more than a developer conference, with branded shirts and merch booths creating a fanfare rarely seen in the semiconductor world.

Sovereign AI and European Independence

A central theme of Huang’s message was “sovereign AI”—the concept of countries owning and operating their own data centers to reduce dependence on foreign tech infrastructure. This message resonated especially in France, where Nvidia announced a new partnership with AI startup Mistral to build a domestic AI cloud using Nvidia GPUs.

The initiative speaks to rising European interest in data sovereignty, AI competitiveness, and digital independence.

China, Competition, and Global Strategy

In a brief CNBC interview, Huang addressed growing concerns over China’s AI ambitions, especially as export controls have limited Nvidia’s ability to sell its top-tier chips there. Although Chinese tech giant Huawei is catching up, Huang said it still lags behind Nvidia in performance—though it can compensate by using more chips.

“If the U.S. doesn’t participate in China, Huawei has got China covered—and possibly everyone else,” Huang warned.

He also emphasized the strategic importance of maintaining a global AI technology stack based on U.S. platforms.

Betting Big on Robotics and Quantum

Looking ahead, Huang predicted the 2020s will be the decade of autonomous vehicles and robotics, both of which Nvidia supports with its AI systems. He also highlighted quantum computing as reaching a turning point, calling it essential for breakthroughs in fields like medicine and materials science.

From policy to product, infrastructure to innovation, Huang’s European tour made one thing clear: Nvidia intends to be the backbone of the global AI revolution.https://www.instagram.com/p/DMJMf6FzYlJ/
