Strong Collaboration Despite Competition
The MediaTek Nvidia Partnership is progressing as planned. MediaTek president Joe Chen reassured investors that despite Nvidia’s new collaboration with Intel, their joint efforts remain on track. The partnership aims to produce significant results within the next two to three years.
Shares of MediaTek fell 2.43 percent to NT$1,405 after Intel’s announcement. Some investors feared Nvidia’s Intel partnership could overshadow its work with MediaTek. However, Chen emphasized that the two companies’ collaboration covers a wide range of products. This includes Arm-based devices, automotive systems, and cloud solutions using Nvidia’s NVLink technology.
New Dimensity 9500 Chip Powers Vivo X300
MediaTek unveiled its new flagship smartphone chip, the Dimensity 9500. Built using TSMC’s 3-nanometer process, the chip features advanced AI capabilities. Vivo will debut the Dimensity 9500 in the upcoming X300 series, launching in Taiwan in November.
The Dimensity 9500 has already been adopted by several top Android smartphone brands, including Samsung. MediaTek aims to expand its market share and match its 40 percent global share of mobile chips with this flagship product.
Foundry and Global Strategy
MediaTek continues to rely on TSMC for advanced chip manufacturing. TSMC’s 2-nanometer process will power future products. Additionally, MediaTek plans to use TSMC’s Arizona facility to serve U.S. clients who prefer domestically produced chips for sensitive products like automobiles.
Despite these efforts, global smartphone demand remains slow. MediaTek forecasts growth of just 1 to 2 percent annually. In China, government subsidies have driven some initial demand, but the company does not expect new demand to surge.
Nvidia Partnership Offers Long-Term Potential
The MediaTek Nvidia Partnership has far-reaching goals beyond just smartphones. Both companies aim to drive innovation in AI-powered devices, connected cars, and cloud computing. Chen highlighted that this collaboration is more than just a single product launch; it reflects a broader vision for the future of technology.
The partnership’s full impact is expected to unfold by 2028, as both companies push the limits of performance and efficiency. The Dimensity 9500 is only the beginning of this collaboration, signaling a significant shift in the mobile and AI landscape.
